Team Plasma (Japanese: プラズマ団 Plasma-dan, literally Plasma Gang) is a villainous team based in Unova. They were founded by Ghetsis, and led by N, Colress, and Ghetsis at various points in their activity.

History

Team Plasma was founded on the thoughts and ideals of Ghetsis. After splitting from his wife Johanna due to his thirst for power, he set out on a journey in which he desired to somehow rule Unova and be the only one with Pokémon. Knowing he couldn't do it alone, he met and befriended six other men: Gorm, Bronius, Rood, Zinzolin, Giallo and Ryoku, and formed a team in which he claimed would set out to "liberate" all Pokémon from their Trainers, either by convincing people or by theft. The seven men saw themselves as protectors of Pokémon, and soon began to collect followers, who would later become Grunts, knowing they would need an 'army' to complete their task.

Throughout all of this, Ghetsis raised his biological son, N. Ghetsis took little notice in his child at first which saw him hire two women named Anthea and Concordia to care for him, but as he grew he began to attain powers to speak and communicate with Pokémon, which intrigued Ghetsis, realizing he could use N's abilities to his advantage. From that point on, Ghetsis stuck close to his son, manipulating him to his ideals and poisoning his mind as he raised him.

As the years went on, the team continued to grow and mold themselves into what would become Team Plasma. Despite their success, as N aged, he asked questions about his mother, and also began to have visions of having a sister in the present day. Not wanting N to stray from the path he had set for him, Ghetsis had told him that his mother wanted nothing to do with either them, claiming that she had kept his sister from them, but ensured that he had been searching for her. Realizing that N would only continue to wonder about his sister, Ghetsis located Lexi in Sinnoh, where he contacted her and asked her to join him and her brother. Feeling left out of her family, Lexi agreed to go with her father.

In the years following this, Lexi and N had become senior members of Team Plasma and spearheaded an operation that was set for them by their father to "liberate" the Legendary Pokémon Reshiram and Zekrom, by finding the Black & White stones which encapsulated them, before freeing them. The two successfully found the stones, and in their victory were declared the 'Prince' and 'Princess' of the Team, both given one of the stones each for safe keeping while they discovered how to free the Pokémon. Although Ghetsis had wanted to find the stones, he didn't want them in the hands of his children, scared that they might take them for themselves and that Ghetsis wouldn't be able to succeed in his overall goals. He made a plan that saw him turn the two children against one another, claiming to each of them that the other had plans to overthrow them. N gave his stone to his father for safekeeping, but Lexi disagreed and instead fled with her stone. Not wanting to lose it, Ghetsis sought after her, but failed when she blew up their base. He then told the rest of the Team that Lexi had been planning to overthrow them all along, and that she would be found and dealt with. However, in the effect of the blast, Lexi received amnesia, forgetting everything about her years as a Plasma member and her knowing of N and Ghetsis, leading to her leaving Unova with the intention of returning to her mother in Sinnoh whom she remembered.

The Alexis Saga

Team Plasma first appeared in The Alexis Saga series when Ghetsis appears in Accumula Town where he was holding a rally trying to get people to join Team Plasma's cause. Lexi was present at the time, although she had aged and became unrecognizable to the team at this point, who had given up their task to find her years back. She was approached by N, who quizzed her if they knew each other, but failed to make a connection to his sister.

Team Plasma appeared sporadically throughout the series from then on. Two Plasma Grunts appeared later when Lexi arrived at the Dreamyard, who were trying to capture a Munna in order to get some Dream Mist to spread their message in people's dreams.

After Lexi defeated Lenora at the Nacrene Gym, Team Plasma attacked the museum and stole a bone from the Dragon Fossil exhibited their. Lexi gave chase and battled against N, who continued to question her. They returned in Pinwheel Forest where more Grunts battled against Lexi, which led to Gorm admitting defeat and returning the Dragon Skull. They appeared in Castelia City where they were stealing people's Pokémon, including Bianca's Munna, who was returned following another run in with Lexi.

The team became aware of Lexi after these appearances and she soon became a target that the team wanted to eradicate, after she had thwarted several of their operations. Ghetsis had suspicions of it being his daughter, but kept this secret as he was too focused on his overall goal, feeling revealing her identity might cause the team to lose focus.

Team Plasma continued to run into and battle against Lexi, including in Nimbasa City where N battled against her, Driftveil City where Zinzolin was leading an operation at the Cold Storage, Chargestone Cave where the Shadow Triad and N confronted Lexi and Mistralton City where N tested the friendship between Lexi, Oshawott and Axew.

The teams plans came to a head when they finally discovered how to awaken the Reshiram held within the White stone. They arrived at Dragonspiral Tower and began the process, being joined by Lexi, although she was too late to stop it from happening. N flew off with the Reshiram to an undisclosed location, while Ghetsis tricked Lexi and her friends into believing that he had gone to the Relic Castle, only to ambush them upon arrival in a hope to gain the Black Stone from Lexi, which they failed to do so. Ghetsis then approached and confronted Lexi on the Tubeline Bridge, telling her that they didn't need her Stone and left once more, although this was a lie to throw her from believing they'd approach her again.

The team disappeared following this, until after Lexi had defeated the Elite Four and planned to battle Alder. The Team returned to capture Lexi, unfortunately unable to do so after a tip-off from Cynthia resulted in her running away. Team Plasma then took over the League and rose N's Castle from the ground, which they had secretly been building for years for their final plans. It was then that Ghetsis sent out one of his field operatives, Whitlea to find Lexi, make her discover the truth about her past with the team then lead her to him, which she did so, under the guise of a young Trainer, bringing along an old friend of hers who was unaware of her plot. Lexi was returned to the League, where now knowing the truth, she battled against N who felt that his sister had betrayed him. However, Lexi defeated N, who forgave his sister and planned to call off the attack at the League. But Ghetsis revealed his true plans to them all, admitting to manipulating N to further his own goal. Lexi and N battled against Ghetsis, who was defeated and then arrested. Whitlea escaped, while N departed, but not before disbanding the team.

Two years later

In the two years between, Team Plasma slowly returned after Zinzolin, who was still loyal to Ghetsis and was the only one aware of his true goals, began to recollect the most loyal members of Team Plasma for their next operation, which would be to take over Unova. Meanwhile, the other five Seven Sages reformed Team Plasma but with the sole purpose of returning and protecting Pokémon, without the use of criminal activity, basing the team on the initial plans of "liberating" Pokémon, but in a peaceful and non-terrorist way.

Team Plasma first reappeared at Floccesy Ranch where they were stealing Pokémon including a Herdier, being stopped by Lexi. After being stopped, they headed to Virbank City where they attempted to steal Lexi and Hugh's Pokémon. After fending them off, Hugh believed they retreated to Castelia City, where they were found in Castelia Sewers. Colress also appeared in the Castelia City where he mentioned he was researching how to draw out the most strength from Pokémon. After defeating Burgh at the Castelia Gym, Colress used a special machine to clear the Crustle that blocked off Route 4 and battled against Lexi, although his alliance to Team Plasma was unknown at this time.

In Nimbasa City, Team Plasma was seen being confronted by Hugh who demanded answers about a Pokémon kidnapping in Aspertia City from them. Lexi, Hugh, and Cheren confronted Team Plasma on their ship. There, Zinzolin appeared and revealed they had a new plan to take over the Unova region before commanding the Shadow Triad to remove the trio from the ship. Zinzolin then appeared again in Lacunosa Town where he battled against Lexi alongside a Grunt in a tag battle.

Team Plasma began their operation by covering Opelucid City and nearby routes with ice in search of Drayden's DNA Splicers. They were quickly defeated and retreated to the Seaside Cave, although Opelucid City remained frozen for some time. Lexi once again took on Team Plasma on the Frigate, before once again being removed by the Shadow Triad.

Team Plasma retreated to the Giant Chasm, but Lexi had only caught them again and battled her way through the ship. After both Zinzolin and Colress (whose identity was now revealed) were defeated by Lexi, Ghetsis revealed himself as the true mastermind behind Team Plasma once more. After defeating the Shadow Triad, Lexi gave chase to Ghetsis and found him in the deepest part of the Giant Chasm where he summoned Kyurem. Ghetsis ordered Kyurem to attack her, but the attack was stopped at last minute by N who arrived to save them. Ghetsis was not surprised by this, who then used the stolen DNA Splicers to merge Kyurem with N's Dragon. Lexi then took on the new Dragon as well as Ghetsis and put an end to his plans once and for all. Despite defeating both and restoring Kyurem, Ghetsis disappeared with several other members, but vowed to return.

In the time following this, Ghetsis once again worked in secret with the remaining Team Plasma members. In this time, Ghetsis formed a small group of Team Plasma named the Ghetsis Initiative, including Ghetsis, Colress, Zinzolin and a group of Grunts. Instead of conquering Unova, Ghetsis instead turned his plans towards the Dream World, where he thought he could create his own ideal world.

Ghetsis once again hatched a plan to take down Lexi, this time deciding to wait for her to come to him; ordering Colress to disguise himself and hide in the Dream World until Lexi arrived. In this time, Ghetsis indirectly pushed Fennell's work on the Dream World, knowing she would Ask Lexi to help her, which she did so. Colress met Lexi in the Dream World and helped her to restore it after several power irregularities were being reported, however they were both captured by Ghetsis's henchman, where they interrogated them. Following their escape, Colress revealed his true identity, and attempted to kill Lexi. Able to escape just in time, Lexi returned to the real world to find that Ghetsis has taken over Unova already, and that the whole region was under disarray. Ghetsis then planned to head to a Labyrinth where the 'true door' to the Dream World was held, and in the mean time asked Colress to 'get rid' of Lexi and her brother N, whom had returned to help her in her plans. Colress and Lexi, along with N ended up fighting, where Colress used his machine to create a giant Hydreigon. Unfortunately for him, Colress was killed by a fire attack, after he became mad with anger and power. Ghetsis then seemingly killed N while disguised as a civilian, knocking out Lexi. Following more events, Ghetsis managed to find the Labyrinth and journey through it, reaching the door. Using Eevee and it's Eeveelutions to unlock the true portal to the Dream World, Ghetsis successfully managed to open the door and begin his plan. Following this, a war between Ghetsis, his Initiative against Lexi and her many friends and Pokémon broke out resulting in the downfall of Team Plasma. However, both Ghetsis and N (who returned alive, not having been killed like it seemed) were locked within the Dream World, unable to get out or rescued.

All members of Team Plasma, bar Ghetsis, were arrested and split apart, ensuring Team Plasma would not return. Ghetsis and N are to this day, presumably still locked within the Dream World.

Once Ghetsis was trapped into the Dream World, the three left, saying that they could not serve someone who wasn't in this world any longer.
  • Anthea and Concordia are aids of Team Plasma. They never affiliated themselves with Team Plasma's plots but were rather there to look after and care for N as he grew up. They continued to do so when he led the team. After Team Plasma was first taken down, they were pardoned for their involvement in the team and left. They were seen in the original Team Plasma's safe house in Driftveil City two years later, having joined the team due to the teams new goal of liberating Pokémon in a peaceful way.
